You may be wondering why I have felt it necessary to set up a family website. Are the family interested in their origins and the lives of their predecessors ? Maybe not. I wasn't, until in my 70's I felt the urge to find out more about my family history and put it down on paper. When my mother died in 1969 I found a cardboard box full of old documents and photographs relating to Wrights Bus Service and Lincolnshire Flying Services, the two companies set up by my father. There was also a photograph album and a biscuit tin full of family photographs but no names. So I began to look for further sources of information. I contacted surviving members of the family, old employees or their descendants and old family friends and either interviewed them or asked them for written information on their recollections. The Internet was another source, disclosing unexpected documents such as the contract of sale of Wrights Bus Service in 1951 and my father's pilot's licence. Thus I was able to compile sufficient information to write a brief history of my father's business activities. I also attended a course run by Keele University and sponsored by Age Concern for people who wanted to write their own life story. This lasted 20 weeks and we had to write a chapter a week. This can be found on the page Family Stories. Winn died from pancreatic cancer on 3rd May 2012 nd I now live at 33 Priesty Court, Congleton, apartments for retired people.
